A place where I can share the quotes that I have collected (and keep collecting) over the years. I have gathered them from all sorts of sources. The "Quote of the Day" posts will always be a quote from a book and may be on any topic.

Quote It! Saturday

This blog is, of course, devoted to quotes. At least it's supposed to be...Having once again missed posting for an entire week, I'm going to post enough quotes today to make up for it.

But, in the meantime, Freda's Voice has a wonderful meme called
Quote It! that I cannot resist participating in. You can post as many quotes as you like. To join in, hop on over to Freda's place!

One of the deep secrets of life is that all that is really worth doing is what we do for others.

—Lewis Carroll

It is easier to make certain things legal than to make them legitimate.

—Sébastian Roch Nicholas Chamfort

Passion holds up the bottom of the universe and genius paints up the roof.

—Chang Ch’ao

Flatterers look like friends as wolves like dogs.

—George Chapman

People who grow up without a sense of how yesterday has affected today are unlikely to have a strong sense of how today affects tomorrow. It is only when we become conscious of the flow of time that the consequences of action—whether it is taking drugs or dropping out of school—become a consideration. It is only when we have perspective on our lives that motives besides immediate gratification can come into play.

—Lynne V Cheney

Advice is seldom welcome; and those who want [need] it the most always like it the least.

—Lord Chesterfield

Knowledge is a comfortable and necessary retreat and a shelter for us in advanced age; and if we do not plant it while young, it will give us no shade when we grow old.

—Lord Chesterfield

Quote It! Saturday

This blog is, of course, devoted to quotes. At least it's supposed to be...I'm still trying to get back in the swing of keeping up with two blogs--How did I do it before?

But, in the meantime, Freda's Voice has a wonderful meme called

I've got a mixed bag today....a little bit funny and a little bit serious:

Campbell’s Law: A sinner can reform, but stupid is forever.

—Lt. Colonel William P Campbell III

Losing a loved one, uncertainty about what we are—these are deprivations that give rise to our worst sufferings. We may be idealists, but we need what is tangible. It is by the presence of persons and things that we believe that we recognize certainty.

But does it truly matter what we lack when what we have is not used up? So many things are susceptible of being loved that surely no discouragement can be final. To know how to suffer, to know how to love, and, when everything collapses, to take everything up once more, simply the richer from suffering, almost happy from the awareness of our misery.

—Albert Camus

Perhaps we cannot prevent this world from being a world where children are tortured. But we can reduce the number of tortured children. And if you don’t help us, who else in the world can help us do this?

—Camus [This was one of Robert F Kennedy's favorite quotations.]

The work an unknown good man has done is like a vein of water flowing hidden underground, secretly making the ground green.

—Thomas Carlyle

The ideas I stand for are not mine. I borrowed them from Socrates, I swiped them from Chesterfield. I stole them from Jesus. And I put them in a book. If you don’t like their rules, whose would you use?

—Dale Carnegie
